MICRONEEDLING

Microneedling is also known as collagen induction therapy. It is a treatment that increases collagen in the skin, thus reducing the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles, acne scars, stretch marks and pigmentation. It does so by creating thousands of controlled microchannels in the skin to trigger the body’s natural wound healing process.

Why does Dr Koh choose SkinPen over other microneedling devices in the market?

What else do I need to know about microneedling?

  • Each session takes 30-45 minutes.
  • We recommend a course of 3-6 sessions for optimum results with 4-week intervals. Once completed, we recommend that clients maintain their treatments by having courses of 3 sessions once or twice a year.

What will I expect to see or feel during and after treatment?

During a microneedling session, you’ll feel a sensation similar to light sandpaper moving across the skin. While not painful due to the numbing cream applied beforehand, it’s certainly noticeable. After the treatment, expect some redness and sensitivity, similar to a mild sunburn, which typically subsides within a few days. Recovery is approximately 48 hours. You may also experience slight swelling and skin flaking as part of the healing process. These are normal reactions, showing that your skin is repairing and rejuvenating itself. It’s crucial to follow post-treatment care instructions for optimal recovery and results.

PLATELET-RICH PLASMA (PRP)

PRP stands for Platelet-Rich Plasma which is an advanced, innovative treatment for anti-aging and hair loss. It harnesses the healing power within your own blood which contains potent growth factors, compounds and nutrients. When PRP is harvested and reinjected into targeted treatment areas, growth factors are released which trigger new cell production.

  • It is effective in treating hair loss especially male and female pattern hair loss. When used in the face (known as the “Vampire Facial”), it is often combined with microneedling, creating channels for better absorption and enhancing benefits through a synergistic effect.

What is the step-by-step guide in the PRP treatment procedure?

  1. ​​Preparation: A local anaesthetic cream is applied to the treatment area to minimize discomfort.
  2. Blood Collection: We draw a small blood sample from your arm (about 10-20ml).
  3. Centrifugation: The blood is spun in a centrifuge to separate PRP from other components.
  4. PRP Extraction: The PRP layer is extracted, ready for treatment.
  5. Injection: PRP is carefully injected into the targeted area, like the scalp for hair restoration or combined with microneedling on the face for rejuvenation.
  6. Post-Treatment: After the procedure, the area is soothed and necessary aftercare is applied.

What else do I need to know about PRP?

  • Treatment times can vary from patient to patient depending on the size of the area being treated. On average a session takes around 45 minutes.
  • PRP hair loss treatments are designed to stimulate new hair growth and can also improve the thickness of your hair. Visible results may take between 2-12 weeks and vary from person to person.  For hair loss, treatments tend to last an average of 6-12 months. After completing a course of treatments, it is recommended that you have a maintenance treatment every 6-12 months.
  • For facial rejuvenation, results tend to last until natural ageing occurs, and maintenance treatments at 3 to 6 monthly intervals are recommended to maintain and improve the longevity of the results.

CHEMICAL PEELS

A chemical peel is a skin treatment where a chemical solution is applied to the skin to remove the top layers. The skin that grows back after a peel is smoother and younger looking. Chemical peels are used to treat wrinkles, discoloured skin, and scars — often applied to the face. They can be done at different depths, from light to deep. Lighter peels have a more superficial effect and shorter recovery time, while deeper peels offer more dramatic results but require longer recovery periods.

As all chemical peels can vary in their intensity, it is important to choose one that you feel is right for your skin. Dr. Koh offers the ZO Stimulator Peel (formulated by world-renowned skin expert, Dr. Zein Obagi) which is categorised as a superficial peel. It will only focus on the gentle exfoliation of the top layer of skin, otherwise known as the epidermis. Basically, there is no downtime, peeling or redness afterwards, just glowing, healthy skin. This peel is also recommended for individuals starting on a new ZO® Skincare regimen to jumpstart exfoliation and allow for deeper product penetration.

The ZO Stimulator Peel is made up of a combination of acids – Citric Acid, Glycolic Acid and Lactic Acid, that can have many positive effects on the condition of the skin. What to expect during the treatment process?

We will ensure that your face is thoroughly cleansed before we apply this peel to your skin. This peel will be left in place for 2-3 minutes before a neutralising solution is used to balance your skin’s pH level and a selection of products tailored to your skin concerns applied to ensure that your skin remains fully hydrated and protected following your treatment.

The peel can be customised to your skin concerns – with ingredients specific for acne prone skin, hyperpigmentation or signs of ageing – plus potent concentrations of other active ingredients to exfoliate the skin, stimulate the growth of collagen and elastin and reduce lines, wrinkles and other blemishes. For optimum results we recommend once a week for a month.
